Born in Madrid, specifically from the bustling municipality of Leganés, César describes himself as a simple guy with an unbridled passion for profitability and numbers.
He studied Business Management and Administration, and also graduated in Teaching to broaden his career options, although he never actually worked as a teacher. His passion for learning and his versatile nature have led César to work in diverse sectors such as banking and events.
His professional career began after completing a course on financial terminals, which allowed him to work for several years in the offices of entities like La Caixa and Banco Sabadell. However, his decision to seek a change led him to join Workout Events 7 years ago to work in the Finance Department.
Since then, César has been a key figure in Workout’s administration, starting by assisting his colleagues with billing, accounting, and budgeting, and eventually becoming the Deputy Financial Director. Let’s learn a bit more about his day-to-day:
What does the Administration Department of an event staffing company do?
It depends on the size of the company. At Workout Events, for instance, the department is quite large and is subdivided:
- Billing: We send, issue invoices…
- Payments: We ensure that all staff receive their payment correctly and handle any issues that may arise in this regard.
- Collection: We oversee outstanding payments.
- Purchasing and General Services: We acquire or reserve everything necessary to carry out a service.
- Accounting and Treasury: This is my main role in the company, ensuring that the company’s accounts are up to date and that every payment leaving Workout is properly registered.
What would you say is the most challenging part of your job?
Playing the role of the bad cop with my colleagues. Sometimes it’s hard to convey to everyone that it’s necessary to control over expenses and that they have to submit receipts and invoices for all transactions. We need to justify them from our department…
Sometimes you attend events as a Staff Coordinator. How was the transition from the office to fieldwork?
I started working as an event waiter during the pandemic to supplement my office salary. I did it because I need it , but I’m still working as a Staff Coordinator because (although I’m a money guru and always want to earn more) it’s a way of breaking the routine and being part of what Workout truly is: event staffing.
Has it changed your perspective on the company?
Absolutely. In fact, I think everyone who works in the office should attend an event as a waiter, hostess, or assistant… It helped me to respect and understand the great work our colleagues do every day.
Changing the subject… We’ve heard you’re the most sustainable employee in the Madrid office.
I’m probably the least polluting person in the company, but not because I’m committed to environmental care, but because I’m an economist. As with everything in life, I analyze how to make the things I do as efficient as possible in every sense: lower cost, less time, etc. That’s why I come to work by bike.
You also like to work out in your free time…
I’m crazy about sports! I play paddle, soccer… but what I’m most passionate about is the world of motorsports. I’ve traveled all over Europe to attend Formula 1 Grand Prix races.
Do you have any other hobbies?
When I broke up with my first girlfriend, I signed up for dance classes with a friend and got hooked! I’ve learned salsa, bachata, kizomba, rock ‘n’ roll, cha-cha-cha… Nowadays, I don’t do it as much as I’d like, but I love dancing.
What would you say is the phrase or word that best defines you?
FUN. At first, my attitude might seem standoffish because I don’t open up to people easily. I think it’s a pleasant surprise to get to know me and discover that I’m actually a friendly and fun person who loves to joke around and play pranks.
Finally, how do you see yourself in 5 years?
I’m sure I’ll be very different from how I am now because I’m going to be a dad this year, and I imagine that’s going to change my life a lot. Still, I’d like to continue being part of the company.
I admit that there was a time when I didn’t understand when people said Workout is a big family, but nowadays, I really do feel that sense of belonging with Workout, with my colleagues, and with the events world.
